Bob O’Connor, is the Virginia News Source Special Editor for Virginia Beach City Government.

Bob is a retired computer programmer and systems analyst. Since “retiring” he has become a student of government to continue using his skills as an analyst. He has studied the Virginia Beach City Council since 1997, attending city manager’s briefings that precede each formal council session, many council workshops, and city council retreats since 2000.

He has been present at more council meetings than some council members and city bureaucrats.



Since 1997, he has attended the Resort Advisory Committee meetings Economic Development Authority meetings, taking copious notes and keeping copies of all staff handouts and position papers.

Bob was co-founder  and  president of the Citizens Action Coalition, Inc. (CACI), having been elected to his fourth one-year term. CACI was the city’s first citizen-based tax and government watchdog.

Even when officially ignored by the city’s power brokers, O’Connor has spoken out on numerous issues before council during the formal session representing taxpayer interests. He was a correspondent, writing articles for the CACI newsletter The Monitor.

Bob is also current president of the North Virginia Beach Civic League (NVBCL) serving a single two-year term. He is the league coordinator for the league with the City of Virginia Beach Clean Community program and schedules the day for liter pick up along the Atlantic Avenue median from 42nd St. to Fort Story, participates in the pick up, and files reports to the city when the task is finished.

Bob usually exercises daily with walks on the beach and ocean swims.
