Home Letters To The Editor Seeking Islamic Compassion (an oxymoron?)

Strong's Concordance lists up to 400 biblical instances of love in varied forms. In my Q'uranic translation actually designed for western evangelization, the term love only showed up in four verses, all referring to love of Allah and one to Allah's love for believers.

Another specifically stated that Allah does not love unbelievers (Surah 3:32). Love was never once mentioned or encouraged for strangers, neighbors, or the lost. In my numerous discussions with Muslims including clerics on their internet forums, they attested that there is no such thing as an "unconditional love" even in regards to their own children! (Now you understand why there could be something as horrendous as "honor" killings.)

It all suggests a root cause for the catastrophic condition of fundamental Islamic perspectives. As their comments and actions make clear, strict Muslims regard such boundless displays of compassion as signs of weakness which are below Allah.

This explains the sharp contrast between the tolerance, civility, and freedom demonstrated by the Christianized world and the intolerance, violence, and repression fomented by Islamic traditions, whether by aggression against "unbelievers" or Sharia Law against their own.

That will not change with discussions of peace or appeasement, but only by the strong arm of their enemies or an inexplicable change of heart.

Oddly enough, the latter is exactly what many of the young and restless dissidents in Syria and Iran are looking for, but something their Islamic leaders must squash to maintain theocratic control over the hearts of the people. Clearly, it is compassion lost in a Dark Ages that never ended.
