Home Letters To The Editor MITT ROMNEY: On Faith and Leadership

When focusing on religious values, wasn't it Franklin D. Roosevelt who told Winston Churchill that we were indeed "Christian soldiers" in that historical effort to counter evil? What happened between then and 2006 when Obama said "we are no longer a Christian nation"? Despite maligned social and religious practices through the ages, it was authentic Christians who ultimately abolished slavery, created governments capable of righting the wrongs of history, established a new nation of unique prosperity and resilience, and even assisted the Jews in reclaiming their rightful nation and inheritance. Those who identify with that heritage comprise approximately 80% of the US population.

Now look at the chaotic cultural state of much of the world including Islamic nations that still practice the slavery and brutality of previous centuries. Obama has made a serious error in judgment by minimizing the foundations of a modern Christian ethic in the name of diversity and multiculturalism. It is not morphing America into a mixed bag of struggling cultures that will retain its greatness, but rather strengthening the national character that has made it a magnet to those others seeking refuge from the struggles. It's written on our buildings and currency: In God We Trust.

Dr. Martin Luther King eloquently made that point when he spoke of, "...standing up for the best in the American dream and the most sacred values in our Judeo-Christian heritage, and thusly, carrying our whole nation back to those great wells of democracy which were dug deep by the founding fathers in the formulation of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence." (April 1963)

Mitt Romney recognizes and represents that national character. If anyone questions his moral and spiritual fiber, have them uncover a Jeremiah Wright or a Bill Ayers in his background, contemptible campaign accusations of felony and murder against his opponent by close associates, an absence of sound economic leadership, or that his experiment in state healthcare reform (expressly allowed by the 10th Amendment of the US Constitution) was not approved with popular and bipartisan support. Barach Obama's political machine fails in all categories and more.

We found out what HOPE & CHANGE was all about – just enough Hope to keep the masses wanting, and a veiled agenda of Change to keep them guessing.

Now we need TRUTH & POSITIVE RESULTS. Mitt Romney has demonstrated, personally and professionally, that he is a leader equipped for that task.

This is in relation to the article above and not the support of any candidate. I guess I must somewhere in the undecided column, and will make a final decision after the debates as to the two candidates, or a third party one. My reservation with Mitt Romney is the inconsistencies based upon past and present positions concerning health care, abortion, stimulus, and Tarp. "Change" is an appropriate word associated with Romney in that where he stands today may not be where stands in the future. I still need to be convinced that he is genuine in his views or is pandering to conservatives.
