Home Letters To The Editor A real case for the Fair Tax!

Editor:

Why should I care if John Kerry tried to avoid $507,500.00 in taxes on his spiffy new yacht?  Why should I care if Charlie Rangel didn't pay federal income taxes on $600,000.00 of rental income while he held the powerful Chairmanship of the Congressional Committee that develops tax law?

We wouldn't be discussing these topics if our nation abandoned a tax system riddled with abuse and favoritism and adopted the FAIR TAX.

Everyone would be treated equally, paying what amounts to a national sales tax and not pay tax on personal income.  The FAIR TAX would be collected at the point of sale and apply to US Senators as well as illegal immigrants.  It would lead to a boost in tax revenue.

The FAIR TAX reinforces the concept:  If you stay here, pay here!

Dylan DelliSanti  - How about the NO Tax? |68.224.187.167 |08-01-2010 17:56:35
While I agree that the Fair tax is the more moral of the two tax systems (as if any form of taxation is truly moral), how about we use the "NO Tax?" As in NO income tax or fair tax. According to Ron Paul's "The Revolution" (written in 08). If we got rid of the income tax and didn't replace it with anything else, we would still collect the same amount of tax revenue as we did in 2000. Is it really so hard to reduce the size of our government to pre-2000 levels? It must be if no one outside of libertarian circles is taking my idea seriously. I do think the fair tax is a ittle more preferable to the income tax though, only because the rich would have to pay it just as the poor do. The political elite and those with connections would be unable to escape like they do today under the income tax?

Amen John!
What an intriguing idea. If it works it would be as novel as rescinding prohibition which sure had its share of abuses!

Mr. DelliSanti,

The Fairtax not only replaces the income tax but payroll, FICA, & Medicare, Not to mention corporate, capital gains, and inheritance.

So when you spend your life working to place your children in a better position the government doesn't take half before you can give your wealth to them.

There are so many advantages to the Fairtax (HR25) over every proposed replacement or reform it would almost be impossible to cover in this word limited format.

I agree with the post above but this is a necessary first step because it would once again make all American equal before the law instead of divided by income as we are currently.
