BLOWING ROCK, NC - - WOW! Bistro Roca & Antler's Bar Restaurant. Well off the beaten path in this beautiful mountain town, Bistro Roca was a surprising find in our search for fine cuisine and great service.

Located down Laurel Lane, behind the town park and across the Broyhill Lake causeway @ 143 Wonderland Trail, Bistro Roca features wood fired dishes and outdoor dining on a covered porch - complete with propane heaters when chilly temperatures move in.

Our group ordered the Cuban Crepe of slow braised pork, ham, Swiss Cheese on a crepe served with fried plantains, white bean, & grilled chile salad ($10) - was a wonderful blend of mixed flavors and was adequate to be shared with two of our guests.

Another Ooohed and Ahhhed over the Antlers Pizza, made with house-made tomator sauce, sausage, roasted garlic with mozzarella. Way more than a 1-person pizza and was shared with 2 others who were equally delighted. ($9).

One of the group, a self-described burger addict took the B.R. Burger challenge, light fare featuring Vermont cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato on a Kaiser bun with fries. Both adequate and tasty, it was judged 8+ on a scale of 1-10. It could have rated higher with a slice of red onion. ($8.50).

The guacamole melt of house-made guacamole, white cheddar on rye toast with fries and salad was judged 'incredible' and heartily devoured. ($12).

Finally the grilled tuna burger - fresh tuna, marinated and hand-diced into chunks, grilled, & served with lettuce, tomato, avocado aioli and fries was top notch. ($12).

All 6 members of the dining party said Bistro Roca & Antlers Bar will be at the top of their list when visiting Blowing Rock.

One hint: If you are in the town park area or the downtown section of Blowing Rock and you get a whiff of wood-smoked cooking, you have to look at Bistro Roca as the source.
