Big Spender

August 30, 2012
— If you need more evidence that Virginia Beach city government can’t do anything that isn’t sleazy, you need look no further than the Sports Arena extortion move.

In typical political MO, Mayor Will Sessoms said he only heard about the deal 2 weeks ago.  That was a blatant lie.

Not only that,  the owners of the NBA team being hawked knew nothing about the deal, much less that it had been ‘slyly’ hinted the Sacramento  team would be the Beach Arena’s tenants?  What?  Yep.  S

If he wasn’t aware that the VBDA had spent $700,000 (never publicly authorized) and 18 months trying to lure a sports deal, Sessoms has to be as dumb as some associates say he is.

And if all that money was spent without oversight, heads should roll and Sessoms kicked out of office in November.  Someone should investigate the expenditure to make sure it wasn’t blown in typical administrator fashion on the $1,000 bottle of wine and $100 steaks while playing the ‘big dog’ from the East Coast.

IT'S A GOVERNMENTAL DISASTER THAT WE CAN'T TRUST OUR GOVERNMENT OR BELIEVE ANYTHING THE POLITICIANS AND BUREAUCRATS SAY  -  NOTHING:  IF THEIR LIPS ARE MOVING THEY ARE LYING!

barf_bagWe need an accounting of that expense. NOW.  The VBDA - if he could hide expenditures like that, could steal any amount of money it wanted without public disclosure.

Are there criminal violations?  Someone needs to find out.

Sessoms and company can’t seem to operate without cover ups and sleaze.  Transparency would not pass the smell test.  And neither does this.

These people weren’t knocking on Beach doors to try to get in here.  Not until they were told by VBDA how stupid the citizenry is - and probably bragged about how much tax money they could blow without oversight.  They didn’t have to be dragged in kicking and screaming when they learned how much VBDA and Sessoms were willing to ‘give away’ to get a deal.

If Sessoms and his ‘barf bag buzzards’ would study the Research Triangle in NC, they might learn something about how those cities attract big corporate deals without giving away the treasury.

I think they should be holding their meetings more appropriately in an outdoor toilet for all the shit they put out.

The answer to "the Sessoms problem" is quite simple.

Elect Golden, Smith and McCormick to join Moss and DeSteph on the City Council and Put "RK" Rick Kowalewitch in the Mayor's office.

That combination of small businessmen, attorneys and budget men would make VB the envy of all the jack-leg city governments suffering as we are!

Make this the "Peoples' city government, not the special interests' city."

Let's connect a few more dots. John W. Richardson is Chair of the un-elected, unaccountable, all-powerful, 11-member Virginia Beach Development Authority. Mayor Will Sessoms, along with other councilpersons, appointed him in September 2010 for a 4-year term. Mr. Richardson is also a Managing Partner of Kaufman & Kanoles, and his office is 2101 Parks Ave - "Towne Pavilion Center I" which is owned and leased by Runnymede - whose CEO is Michael Barrett. Runnymede also owns and leases "Towne Pavilion II" at 600 22nd Street. Towne Bank is one of the tenants in that building. But, I digress. Mr. Richardson is also a Director at Towne Bank and a contributor (according to VPAP) to the Sessoms for Mayor campaign. The incestuous relationships that exist among the "rulers" of our fine city are truly nauseating.

Perhaps we need a Mayor, who is unencumbered by time, who can have an open door policy and maintain daily office hours at city hall. One who not only officiates meetings in a leadership role, but one who can participate in an active ceremonial role with residents, the military, and public functions. One who does not have to crunch meetings. One who documents and indexes all email/correspondence/meetings and believes in a transparent government.

What Tidewater needs is NC's district attorneys and FBI - Seldom a week goes by in NC that the government corruptions unit doesn't bust politicians and bureaucrats from wrong doing in that state
