(August 24, 2010) - - Next week Israeli PM Natanyahu is going to be in DC to talk ‘peace’ with Palestinian Prez Abbas.

No more illusive term can be found in the dictionary than what ‘peace’ means - especially in the Middle East and Asia.  Everyone defines it differently.

While their meeting will be called 'peace talks', we hillbillies call it ‘jawboning’ someone ‘flapping their gums’ because all that comes out is hot air and no substance.  None is expected in the DC talks, Irene, our Middle East Blogger tells us.

She writes:  “We'll have to wait and see what the outcome of the talks will be -  one thing is certain, we can't be pressured into terms which will endanger our safety. Jerusalem is of course another problem.”

Then Irene looks back at observation in a diary she kept during the 6-Day War, but right now one of the worst problems in Israel is the ongoing heat wave.  Get a feel for the ground level view of Life in Israel - a Tenuous Peace - Irene’s blog.

Thanks French for so readily embracing the newest VBTA proposal. Let's restate it for the record.

You said that instead of light rail in the I-265 corridor we should..."widen I-264, (it) is expensive but it would benefit the taxpayers that should pay for it. We need to plan ahead based upon informed projections. Condemn and pave or get out of the way. No one wants to hear it, but it may be time to make I-264 a toll road again. Agreed?"

French, has that been voted on at a VBTA meeting. Do you really recommend the condemnation of hundreds of homes and businesses adjacent to I-264?

Is that the positon of Moss, Dean, Greenmun, Erb, Hedrick, DeSteph and the rest of the moribund VBTA?
