 Rigell Editor:
(August 31, 2010) - - Well before the June 2, 2010, Republican Primary, the GOP anointed Scott Rigell as the man who will be the 2010 Second District, Republican congressional candidate in Virginia.
Ladies and Gentlemen, that was wrong; by no means, should the GOP have endorsed a candidate before the primary. When a political party thinks and speaks for the people paying the bills and doing the hiring, tyranny begins.
The taxpayers should be able to ask questions and hear each candidate out without the influence of those who are able to profit by the out come of any election. The GOP spoke and unfortunately, the people listened.
Apparently, it did not matter to the GOP that Scott Rigell did many, not-Republican things in his past and his campaign ad is not an exact portrayal of the truth.
Scott did not move to Virginia Beach struggling, with his belongings in a u-haul trailer, as one of his television ads would lead one to believe. He married into money and that certainly gave him a step-up in life. Now, I am not saying that marrying money is good or bad or that the man is not a hard worker; it is just a fact and I want the people to know the truth.
Ironically, at the Sarah Palin event at ODU, Terri Rigell, Scott’s wife, spoke on behalf of Scott, stating that Scott was against the government bailouts and the stimulus packages. Yet Scott is a car dealer who took full advantage of this abuse of government power called “Cash for Clunkers”, to the tune of about $440,000.00.
When asked about this, Scott said that his customers demanded it. Scott has put over $1.5 million of his own money into this campaign. Certainly, he would have recovered had he said, “No, I can’t give away this money because, “It is not my money to give”. He could have stood for what he believes is right.
His church must have demanded something that he was not fond of and he certainly stood up for what he thought was right in that case, because he started his own church.
So obviously, if it is something true to Scott Rigell’s heart, he is able to follow what he knows is the right thing to do even if it does cost him a buck or two. Additionally, let us keep this in perspective, the job pays $174,000.00 a year.
Furthermore, when the "Powers that be" were asked why they were supporting Rigell, it was clear that it was because he had contributed so much to their campaigns and to the Republican Party, so they felt obligated to support him. Folks that is what got us in this mess in the first place.
If the wealthy keep supporting the wealthy because he or she supported them, then only the wealthy will continue to be elected. It is more of the same, which has been going on for years. Vote for who you want to be in office. Don’t hold your nose and vote because the Republican machine is behind a candidate and he or she will win or because you are afraid that if you vote with your heart the Dems will win. Again, Vote for who you want in office.
Kenny Golden has a great chance at winning this race. The tides are turning and in many cases, the underdog is winning. Many people are fed up with the Republicans and their socialist ways of anointing candidates in order to reap the rewards.
Join the ranks of many who are voting with pride and with full knowledge that more of the same is going to give us more of the same. Be knowledgeable; our great country depends on it.
As far as the HR Tea Party’s rally behind Rigell... so Nye doesn’t win, is just more Republican blather. Below are the press releases links from the Tea Party concerning the candidates prior to the primary June 2, 2010 and the most recent statement dated Friday, August 27.
