President, Virginia Taxpayers Association

"Official position of Nelson County Board of Supervisors is that any county resident entering the enlarged courthouse in Lovingston, Virginia to review a deed, check an assessment, pay a tax or find out about some school matter MAY be a terrorist carrying a gun, and therefore the courthouse MAY have to have a full body metal detector at the new main entrance which all such residents will be REQUIRED to walk through to do their business," Kenneth White, president of the Virginia Taxpayers Association, declared today.

"The board's official position also is that the board does not have to tell citizens when or how its decisions on the above matters will be made or announced, whether citizens' views will be taken into account, or whether the board will be guided mainly by pressure from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security," White added.

"Thus it is clear that Nelson County now is next to a police state, where rulers give orders which we, the peons, have to follow without questioning anything."

“Once a government is committed to the principle of silencing the voice of opposition, it has only one way to go; and that is down the path of increasingly repressive measures, until it becomes a source of terror to all its citizens and creates a country where everyone lives in fear.”   Harry S. Truman

The man we elected and placed in the White House doesn’t like our country, our religion, our Constitution, or our way of life.

Smith

VIRGINIA BEACH - -  In again, out again, in again?  X-GOP City Chairman Chuck Smith is getting back in the 2nd District GOP congressional race.  A formal announcement is expect this coming week.

Originally Smith was the first (and only for sometime) candidate on the track.  Then others started tossing their hats in the ring later:  Scott Taylor, Ben Loyola, Scott Rigell, Kenny Golden (Smith's successor as city chairman) , Bert Mizusawa, Ed Maulback.

Smith withdrew, leaving the battle to the 6 others.  But now he's poised to announce this coming week that he's rejoining the chase.

A man with solid conservative credentials, Smith is a retired Marine/Navy JAG officer.  And he was the first black to hold a GOP local chairmanship in the state.

The national party establishment has united behind Rigell, however,  a well known Tidewater auto dealer, but Loyola and Mizusawa have not been discounted completely as having potential to win the June 8 primary nomination.

VIRGINIA BEACH - - Listen to what the bureaucrats call fiscal irresponsibility and government mismanagement:  "a long term structural imbalance."

Simple bureaucrat bulls--t, for 'Hey, Houston, we have a problem!'

More simply stated the city is spending more than it is taking in without a massive tax or fee increase.

Bob O'Connor, VNS's city government blogger has started a series of articles: State of the City - Finances.  He'll tell you what your elected officials and city staffers won't.  Read his Virginia Beach Taxpayers Blog - Behind the 8-Ball Again!

What's in the docs of Norfolk's Black Hole Express? PDF Print E-mail

dummies_100A few facts you need to know before jumping aboard the Black Hole Express...

1. The contract between Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) and the Federal Transportation Administration had many checks and balances in place that Virginia Beach City Council members Jim Wood (chairman of the HRT Commission) and John Uhrin should have known if they would have just sat down and read the agreement and then exercised some management skills.

Highlights

(a) The Government has no obligation to provide any financial assistance for the Project beyond the Maximum Federal New Starts Financial Contribution ($127,980,000).  Note: The project is midway in its completion, and is already $108,000,000 over budget.

(b) If the total Federal funding provided under Section 8 of this agreement, “Limitations of Federal Funding Commitment,” is insufficient to undertake revenue operation of the Project and the subsequent activities necessary to Complete the Project, the Grantee (HRT) agrees to Complete the Project and accepts sole responsibility for the payment of any additional costs (overruns).

(c) If at any time during its efforts to Complete the Project the Grantee (HRT) determines that the total project cost will exceed the Baseline Cost Estimate, the Grantee must immediately notify the Government of the amount of the difference and the reasons for the difference.  (There is no evidence this has been done in a timely fashion).

Quotes of the Day

QUOTES OF THE DAY

“At the end of the Commission on National Goals report is the following: Attributed to American Assembly, founded by Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1950 when he was President of Columbia University.
Attached to the report was a pamphlet entitled “Suggestions for Holding a Local Assembly on National Goals.” The process for arriving at “consensus” explained in the pamphlet is actually group dynamics. Consensus is not consent! These documents prove there has been a well-formulated and funded plan to change the American system of government through decision making by unelected task forces, Soviet-style five-year plans, Delphi-type discussion groups, etc. This type of participatory decision making called for by regional government involving partnerships and unelected councils—is taking place in every state of the nation today. It is rarely challenged since few Americans understand our constitutional form of government, and are, therefore, unable to recognize the important differences between a representative republic and the parliamentary form of government found in socialist democracies.”

- From The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America -

"It would reduce the whole instrument to a single phrase, that of instituting a Congress with power to do whatever would be for the good of the United States; and as they would be the sole judges of the good or evil, it would be also a power to do whatever evil they please. Certainly no such universal power was meant to be given them. It [the Constitution] was intended to lace them up straightly within the enumerated powers and those without which, as means, these powers could not be carried into effect."

- Thomas Jefferson, Opinion on a National Bank, 1791 -

"The legislative department is everywhere extending the sphere of its activity and drawing all power into its impetuous vortex."

- James Madison, Federalist No. 48 -

"One hundred and seventy-three despots would surely be as oppressive as one."

- James Madison, Federalist No. 48 -
